Gene Synthesis Applications

  1. To replace gene cloning.

The technology development in the last a few years made gene synthesis more cost-effective than gene cloning. When the RNAs in nature are rare or not available, gene synthesis is the only choice. Even if RNAs are abundant in tissue, the cost of gene cloning, which includes sample collection, RNA extraction (or DNA extraction if no intron in a specific gene), cDNA construction (or if you buy a cDNA pool), PCR amplification and cloning, as well as mutation detection and correction. The time and cost is usually higher than you anticipated. With gene synthesis at price less than $1 a base, using our gene synthesis service will save you more money, no mention the speed of the gene synthesis and the flexibility of gene optimization.

  1. To clone genes without template.

Along with the development of genome sequencing, more and more of the genomes of diverse organisms had been posted on database. Recently the large scale sequencing allows sequencing genomes of mixture of genomes from samples, such as soil or water, without separation or culture of the microbes. Even with common microbes, not all of them are accessible to a regular lab, gene synthesis give you the freedom to clone any gene in database.

  1. To improve protein expression

To efficiently express a protein heterogeneously requires modification of the codon usage of the target gene. Numerous published examples has shown codon optimized genes generate more proteins than original genes. It is worthy to optimize your gene before you express it in a heterogeneous expression system. Efficient expression of your target protein saves you time and cost by reducing the amount of culture you required and also easing your downstream purification, therefore, increasing the quality of the protein.

  1. To synthesize gene variants

When you make many variants for a target gene such as an antibody library, gene synthesis is a way to go. Unlike site-directed mutagenesis, multiple mutations (any number of mutations, deletion, insertion or point mutations) can be synthesized in one gene in a single process. By gene variant synthesis, you save your time from days to even months.

  1. To make mutation libraries

Similar to gene variant synthesis, mutation library synthesis is another example of the power of gene synthesis. By making degenerated oligos, we can synthesize completely saturated multi-point mutations in days.

  1. To freely design and make new vectors or complex constructs

With the tool of gene design and synthesis, any virtual DNA sequence can be synthesized on our platform. You have the freedom of designing new gene that can be modified andcloned into any constructs.
